A small secret lies beneath the scalloped face of this early 9ct Gold ring. Lift the hinged lid and a little round compartment is revealed, hidden within a design that looks wonderfully decorative on the hand. Curling borders and engraved floral shoulders frame the smooth centre.

Dating to the late Georgian or early Victorian years, c.1830–1840, this is a lovely example of the intriguing compartment-ring form often called a poison ring. Its small scale makes the construction all the more captivating, with details to enjoy from the top, sides and open interior.

Condition

VERY GOOD: This fascinating early ring is in very good overall condition. There is some wear to the Gold and a visible previous resize. The little compartment stays shut but does not close with a click. Its decorative shoulders and hidden interior retain plenty of antique charm.
